Oxygen Treatments

Oxygen treatments are a popular esthetics service, but what do they actually do for our skin? There are different types of oxygen treatments and the benefits are similar: deep cleansing, brightening, vasoconstricting, and anti-aging. Most often, oxygen treatments are performed either via a dome or a spray airbrush. These are used to atomize liquid products into smaller molecules while infusing oxygen ions to further deliver ingredients in the epidermis. These treatments provide excellent results, but there are better ways for the skin to receive oxygen.

Using topical skincare products that contain oxygenating ingredients provide the same benefits on a greater scale. Ingredients like magnesium peroxide, benzoyl peroxide and hydrogen peroxide in professional product formulations allow for so much more - a deeper cleanse by liquifying sebum, treating hyperpigmentation by oxidation, and vasoconstriction properties reduce the appearance of rosacea and dilated capillaries. Other benefits are increasing cell turnover, killing p. acne bacteria, and stimulating the production  of collagen and elastin. Since these ingredients are oxidizing, it’s important for them to be neutralized after just a few minutes of activity to prevent the production of free radicals in the skin.

Overall, oxygen treatments are most beneficial for those struggling with acne, redness, or signs of aging like pigmentation, fine lines or textural issues. Oxygen treatments are excellent before events or in areas with heavy pollution, and they can be completed as often as every two weeks. While treatments can benefit the skin, the best way to receive oxygen is by cardiovascular exercises to increase blood flow throughout the entire body, and keeping your lungs in healthy condition by avoiding smoking and masking in areas with heavy pollution.
