Microcurrent Treatments

Microcurrent is one of the most tried and true esthetics technologies to date. Our body has its own electric current that it uses for many things - nerve impulses, muscle stimulation, it even has a role in the way our heart beats. There are various strengths of electrical currents all around us; in our homes, in the air, even in the palms of our hands. And there’s many ways we can utilize electrical currents in the treatment room - think galvanic current, high frequency, ultrasonic spatulas. If you are seeking the most beneficial technology to treat aging skin (slack muscles, visible expression lines) microcurrent is going to provide the most drastic, long-term change.

Microcurrent is extremely gentle and can be used on almost everyone (epilepsy, pacemakers, pregnancy, and metal implants are contraindicated) and has multiple functions. It can be used to penetrate serums and masks further into the skin, it can be used to stimulate cellular energy, or it can be used to shorten or lengthen muscles. Muscle re-education is one of the most popular applications of microcurrent as it lifts slack muscles (jowls, nasolabial folds, upper eye area) and softens lines from facial expression (forehead, between brows, crows feet).

Since this treatment stimulates muscle activity, it’s best performed in a series of 8-10 treatments over a 4-6 week period to achieve desired results, and then monthly to maintain results. You can think of it as going to the gym for your face, only you don’t have to break a sweat to get the results you want. It is important to understand that microcurrent is not magic, and you will never be able to fully reverse the effects of aging. The effects of gravity, the environment and human life all have effects on the skin. Taking care of yourself properly is the best way to manage aging.
